Reem Abou-samra is a Muslim, Arab, second generation Syrian-American. She is an activist, an oral historian, a spoken word artist, and a mother to two daughters. She has a doctorate in Political Science and a Masters in Near Eastern Studies from Wayne State University in Detroit.
