My Goddess Retreat

The Art of Seduction: Try to Win My Power!

This is a workshop designed for women who want to find their inner “Diva” There is no such thing as “no “just a “yes” waiting to happen. The more confident you are about yourself the more likely you are move to the next level. The workshop will give participants avenues to engage their senses, scribe affirmations, and go-go get sexy on em’! Seduce yourself first and the rest will follow.

Sight: Colors can evoke emotions just as much as what we hear and feel. Colors are powerful indicators of who we are. Perhaps, you may be a beige, black, and white sort of gal and for a change brown or gray. However, you can be a little bold by adding color in places that only you see until you feel more comfortable such as red or hot pink panties, vixen noir toe nail polish! Add a spike to your pumps or dare to wear red shoes ;-)

Taste: Food is a source of energy and rejuvenation but some foods for example, berries, grapes and apples are food for enticement.

Touch: fabric has away of make us feeling good. Materials such as silk, satin, cotton, cashmere, hot bubble bath or shower.

Sound: Music is a natural healer and the confidence we need can be found in the rhythm of our personal sound tracks. Music can set the mood so in the morning get in a mode of worship as you get ready for the day. Hit the car and get in a grove with a song with the vibe you want to create.

Smell: Your lotion, oil, bath spray or perfume make a statement to others but can also be a ritual for you. Oils such as grapefruit, orange, lotus, sandalwood and or vanilla for example can take you a million miles away without leaving where ever you are.

I hope you can join for a morning of inward reconciliation and forward mobility!

See you there! Log on to: www.mygoddessretreat.com to sign up today.

The Pleasure Principle: Launch of the Honey Circle: Chick Chat with The Honey B™

June 6th, 2010

Join me Friday June 11th at Nubian Essence for the launch of The Honey Circle: Chic Chat with The Honey B™. The principles behind this event is to generate sisterhood and unity. This event will discuss the poetry and themes inside my book, “Memoirs of the Human Experience and Everything In Between vol. 1” Ladies who attend this event not only receive my book with entry but some fabulous party favors and give aways! Here is a word from our sponsors for this event…

Meet Chef Marie owner of Cute As A Button

1. How did you come up with the concept for Cute As a Button?

Actually I was leaving the bank and I saw a new cupcake shop in town. I went in and planned to inquire about a job. As it turned out, they weren’t hiring. But it got me thinking that I could do what they did! So I headed to the nearest Office Max, made some business cards and Cute As a Button was born.

2- What are some of your most popular cup cake or cake?
My most popular cake flavors are Red Velvet my Delicious Dark Chocolate.

3- What is your favorite type of cake and why?

My favorite flavor cake is Red Velvet. my favorite style of cake is a multi-tiered cake. Simply because it provides a bigger canvas to create on. Single layer cakes are great, but there are so many more elegant and fun techniques to implement on a multi-tiered cake.

4-How did you get started baking?

I have been baking cakes for as long as i remember. At first, boxed cakes, and I would add things to make them taste better and better, and soon I started making them from scratch. Soon after that i started making my own frosting and it just kept going from there!

5-How do we find you?  My business card. ;-) or FACE BOOK

6- How did you find your passion?

When I started making my own cakes, I wanted to make them pretty. I discovered that i was actually good at it which both surprised and inspired me to make cakes even better and the more I worked on improving my skill, the more I liked it. Simple as that.

Meet Diamonds founder of Diamond’s Bath-n-Body

slogo

1.  How did you come up with the concept for Diamond’s Bath-n-Body?

It started out as a hobby of making all natural bath-n-body products. And my friends and family loved the scents and textures of the products I was creating. Therefore I began to bottle it up and sell it to their friends and co-workers.

2.What are some of your most popular products?

My most popular products are Shea Body Butter, because I use 60% Shea butterin my formual which I take pride in knowing I’m giving my customers quality products that are going to really nourish and mosturize their skin.

Second popular product would be my organic sugar scrub with black soap. Once again the ingredients are the best from organic turbando sugar and raw organic black soap. Not only does my scrub exfoliates but the soap has cleansing agents that lathers. Making it a 2-n-1 cleansing exfoliate.

3. What are your favorite products and why?
My diamondlicious products are my babies and you know you can’t pick a favorite when it comes to your babies. But I would have to say my body butter. Cause I literally have seen a difference in the apperance with my skin tone and overall smoothness of my skin.

4. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business?
I would say to anyone looking to start a business follow your passion. Never allow money to be the first and only reason to create a business. Whatever your idea is make sure it’s one that will enrich the lives of others. And always consult with God before making a life changing decision, such as starting a new business venture. Because you want to make sure its the lords will and not your own, with doing that anything you touch will be blessed and successful.

5. When people leave this event, what do you want them to leave with?
I want people to leave motivated for life and all the beatiful joy it has to offer. Its indescribable and inexpressible the feel you get in the pit of your stomach knowing its possible to get paid for your passion for some thing you love and enjoy to doing.
6. Name one thing that you do just for yourself to treat or reward yourself?
Its the simple things in life that make me happy. Therefore I would say taking a long hot bubble bath with candles, relaxing music, and a glass of cold wine. I also love to purchase new sheets and pajamas for when I get out the bath I’m in a fresh new oasis and I read a good book.

The Pleasure Principle Poetry Edition

April 6th, 2010

Where the Poem Takes You or Where You Take the Poem?

Frequently I am asked where I get my inspiration from and I would have to say there is no one place; there is something deep within that is touched and words flow on their own.  The ancient Greeks believed muses were conduits for which one derived inspiration and there are countless biblical accounts of how God spoke through his profits and poets are prophets. The commandment of poet is to tell the story or give account of the human experience. Poetry causes the reader or audience to reflect and react. It is from this ebb and flow that poetry has changed lives and has given a voice to those who would ordinarily be unheard. HBO’s Brave New Voices is great demonstration of how creativity can save a life. Poetry for youth is one of the best antidotes for aggression and risky behavior.

Some common themes for me are my children (students) and love (not married…yet) but the when and where one can find a poem, you may find interesting, so here are my top 10 places to find inspiration:

10. On the toilet…the commode in the morning is where I get a lot of my best liturature

9. My girlfriends…sistah talk is full of color and humor

8. After a long talk with Jesus

7. Before walking right into what I will later pray that God will forgive me for…temptation is a mother!

6. Hope for a particular out come or prayer manifestation

5. A quote or message

4. Love in all its carnations

3. Music…Nina Simone, Sade, Bob Marley, Santana, Coltrane, Monk, John Lennon and the list goes on.

2. Silence…sometimes the stillness can bring out the best work

1. My heart…I have learned to always be true to it and it has guided my pen every time

The Pleasure Principle: Poetry Month Addition

April 6th, 2010

National Poetry Month

After high school English little thought is given to poetry. The craft is often associated with old balding white men or angry revolutionary rhetoric. However poetry is far more than ratings and unrequited pleas for love. Poetry is the embodiment of the human soul. They eyes secrete tears but the soul secretes poetry.  Here are my top ten uses for poetry.

10. To attract the affection of the opposite sex.

9. To explore an art form.

8. An alternative form of entertainment.

7. A means of personal reflection.

6. It is has it own language (see next blog about venues)

5. Inspiration for you

4.  A chance to inspire someone else.

3. To enact change in your life

2. To enact change in the lives of your community.

1. To enact change in lives all over the world.

Pleasure Principle

Feeling Groovy!

Striking balance is essential to your over all well-being NOTE: This is a two for one ministry here… more for me than for you J  However, I have been blessed with some great examples of individuals who know how to create balance.  My life is complicated and ironic but I really should take a number.  One of my girlfriends recently took a trip to the Dominican Republic.  Besides being green with envy, I paused to ponder something she said.  While the general population belongs to the working class, there was an overwhelming sense of contentment.  She told me that people smiled and seemed to be in rhythm.  It occurred to me that they were in balance.  They rise, eat, work, play, love, dance, and celebrate.  Life needs to include all of these elements.

As I go about working, hosting a poetry series, promoting a book, etc, I know that I have to strike a cord of balance.  Health is paramount.  I have never been a fan of structure and discipline.  Taking a note from cultures that are not as endowed with material possessions, I find them to be infinitely happier than those who are.  Bliss should be followed and I can’t help but derive pleasure from the dance floor in the height of a deep house mix, or engaged in a kiss that takes your breath away…hmmmm.  There is love to made everywhere and in our present culture, we are always plotting, working, and moving that our inner voice and personal legend is neglected.  Followers of Tao believe that divinity lives within and that keeping the mind, body, and spirit pure and well attend ensures that the divine inner being is at its best.  If our bodies are living sacrifices, why are suffering from fatigue, weight-gain, depression, anxiety and other ailments that are results of living in discord?

Every year around this time, we make resolutions and perhaps bigger than losing weight, or finding a better job we should really satisfy the biggest task of all, which is finding harmony with in our beings.  Weight and jobs do not make us happy anyway.  Purpose and good health is where we find prosperity.  Square pegs should never attempt to go in round holes…find your groove or getting it back is ground zero for personal harmony.  Starting the day with gratitude and offerings of stewardship toward the common good is away to reach the Most High and ensuring that blessings will not only flow but also exceed your expectations.

If I meditate in the morning and make a list of what I need to do versus what I want to do, life functions better.  My final thoughts here on this month principal is know what is and isn’t in your control and with that knowledge make a plan and executing it accordingly.  Touch is also important to me so giving a hug and receiving one is necessary.  Establishing connections with people keeps us to the pulse of the Master.  Find a moment each day where you can reflect on a blessing, make a petition, and make a gesture for your health.  Life is about walking in season and keeping the faith.  Find a moment to laugh and share that good feeling with someone else, anyone really.  It is from that perpetuated joy that you will find synchronicity.

In Tandem: Featuring Betsy Mendel

In Tandem: Featuring Betsy Mendel

I spoke with Co-owner of Awareables, Betsy Mendel. Awareables produces t-shirt and tank tops with clever mantras on them such as: “There is No Place Like Om” or “Love is the New Black.”  They believe if we change our thoughts; we can change our circumstances.  “[Thoughts] can start us on a positive upswing rather than a downward spiral.” She told me a few of her secrets to finding balance in our now rather than later society.  “Sometimes you have to H.A.L.T.” she contends that you should never be too hungry, angry, lonely, tired.  As a fitness instructor, she noted that many people go for long stretches with out eating so she keeps nuts in the car.  In addition, many people are angry and lonely.  Whenever she has a bad day, she makes sure smiles and on bad days she reaches out…she refers to it as a hug deficit.  If her supply of hugs runs low she will reach out to anybody and asks them if they can help her reach her quota of hugs for the day…surprisingly they agree and it not only makes her day better but the person that she hugs feels better too.  She also added, “We need to be mentally, physically, and spirituality in sync, if one of those area is not in balance…we are not in balance. For her and her business partner, Rachel Singer, Awarables is not only a business but also a lifestyle.  She also mentioned that doing what you love will also bring about happiness. Log on to www.awarbles.com to find out more about the Awareable mission and to purchase your own Awareable.

The Pleasure Principle

The Pleasure Principle of the Month

….Find me some happy!

I never really warmed up to the word Diva…I thought the Diva to be quite honest a “bitch” with great clothing and shoes.  I believed the “Diva” to be self absorbed, fridged and ill tempered.  On the contrary, many have a different view of her and one Diva in particular is Kimora Lee-Simmons….The Diva of Divas. I had an interesting conversation with a very dear friend, a woman who is a mother figure for me who sees Kimora in way I never saw her. Kimora has set bench marks for herself and she is not a common woman.  If a man wants to date her, it will not be casual. Kimora makes them work. More to the point Kimora works for herself in terms of how she treats herself and here is where it really hit home for me.  Most of us can not afford to drink Crystol on a regular, and more importantly use the over $200.00 a bottle champagne for a pedicure. Nice if you can but the point here is every woman has an inner deity that is worthy of respect and the for me the Christ Self is the highest self and should be regarded as sacred and needs to be tended to.

Every woman needs something to put herself in and for me it is pretty panties. I know that may seem a bit superficial and it is but so what?  My “Super Girl Uniform” makes me feel sexy and when a woman feels sexy, she is more confident.  It is that sort of confidence that leads to inspiration and motivation.  You don’t have to go to Victoria Secret or La Perla but it is great if you do. All you need to is go to TJ Max, Meijer, Target ect and purchase a lacy boy short or thong and pretty matching bra or corset. The key here is setting a mood for yourself.  When you get ready in the morning…play a theme song and but on a nice dress or pant suit just because. Since you are so sexy underneath, don’t stop there add a wind machine too, if you have one lying around collecting dust (smile).

I think every woman needs to wear her “Super Girl Uniform” because what it also does is make you love the skin you are in. You can wear it under your Spanx. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. Why wear granny panties if Flo is not making her rounds. All you have to do is if you are feeling low or little less than is get into your uniform. Next thing you know you will be strutting your stuff, getting a promotion, starting a business and more importantly acknowledging the beauty that is you!  Love it and own every part of you…in the end that all you have is YOU and she is fabulous!
